Award Winning Piano Manufacturer Kawai is proudly sold at Jim’s Pianos.

Founded in 1927 by Koichi Kawai, Kawai Musical Instruments began their journey crafting the world’s finest pianos. From his humble beginnings as the son of a wagon maker, Koichi became the apprentice of a struggling organ builder. That organ builder was none other than Torakusu Yamaha, who helped form the Yamaha Corporation. After Yamaha’s death in 1916 the company began to diversify their products, which displeased Koichi who wanted to continue his craft. This led him to create his own piano company with seven other colleagues dedicated to the production of excellent pianos.

Passed down to his son and eventually grandson, Kawai continued to innovate and perfect the piano, as well as expand the company’s reach around the world. Advanced manufacturing methods such as robotics were eventually introduced, which increased output and attention to every minute detail. One of their biggest achievements, and what draws many potential buyers to their pianos, is their use of ABS material. This allows their pianos to overcome the many issues related to using wood. While considered by some as standard or even “classic”, the use of wood to make pianos comes with complications that do not apply to Kawai’s ABS pianos. Wood is far more susceptible to shrinking and expanding due to humidity, which affects the tuning and reliability of the piano. This innovative feature, as well as their excellent craftsmanship, make Kawai pianos very popular and highly regarded. In 2002 Kawai introduced the use of ABS-Carbon, combining ABS and carbon fiber, to further increase reliability and performance.

When purchasing a piano one must consider many factors: build quality, sound and tone, visual appeal, performance, and so on. Kawai pianos are an investment that will last the buyer a lifetime when cared for, and will fill a room or music hall with crisp tones and melodic perfection. Jim’s Pianos understands that desire for long lasting quality, which is why we provide Kawai pianos.
